Beyond Beyond Day 19 – Kim’s Beach and My Style

This week’s task was to alter Kim Klassen’s beach photograph.  It always feels a little bit “wrong” to take one of Kim’s beautiful photos and change it – below is Kim’s original and then my version.

I love this quote of Eleanor Roosevelt.  I tried to give Kim’s photo a dreamlike feel.  The right side is a pencil sketch idea of a dream and, moving to the left, the realization of that dream.  The pencil sketch technique is in the Sept/Oct issue of Adobe Photoshop Elements magazine.

My Style
I don’t know that I have a style, but I do like taking photos of the plants and wildlife in my backyard.  Below is a favorite of mine – a wild bird bath party.

Friday Finds - Handmade Love

I’ve been on the look-out for an old dressmaker’s form, or some other structure, that I could dress up with scarves and jewelry to photograph.

Last weekend my mom and aunt were planning a trip to the flea market.  I asked my mom to keep an eye out for a form that might work for me.

These two clever and talented women made one!  I cannot believe that they made this!

First they tea stained the fabric and created a pattern; they sewed and stuffed the body. And then they crafted a wooden base from a broom handle and scrap wood.

Truly an amazing treasure!

Texture Tuesday - Spring

I used two layers of Kim Klassen’s 1402 texture on this photo

Spring brings out the pink beauty of this flowering crab tree.  The flowers last for only a short time, just until the spring winds tease the petals from the tree and carpet the ground in glorious pink.

I used two layers of Kim Klassen’s 1402Magic texture on this photo and Radlab

Nesting

Nesting, it's not just for the birds

I used one layer of Kim Klassen’s Totalgrunge and CelebrateJanuary21 textures.

Day 17 Possibilities - Beyond Beyond

Possibilities

This weeks challenge is to set-up a shoot and edit one photo:

Here is the original photo - a handmade bowl, a forged steel heart, flowers clipped from the backyard crabapple tree, and my grandmother's doily.

After Camera Raw processing:

After editing in Photoshop (the B&W version is up top):

Another photo - processed in Photoshop and Rad Lab:

I used Kim Klassen's Desert 2B texture on all of the processed photos.

A Little Visit

I love the rabbits that live around here - for some reason they don't touch the tulips that you see in the background.

Day 14 - Layout and GIFs

Robins are always a welcome sign of spring.
I captured this cute Robin as he perched on top of a planter box while waiting for a turn at the birdbath.
I used one layer of Kim Klassen's dreamit texture.

Catch-up!

I am so behind in my Beyond Beyond class!!  Here is my “catch-up” post

Day 13
Sky Replacement.  It’s been dreary around here lately we’re getting more snow and rain today.

Our grey sky and my backyard tree have been blended behind Kim’s canola picture.
I added Kim’s CanvasMagic texture on top.

Day 13 - Painting “Dings” and making a brush – “Welcome”

Here is my "Painting"

And here is my brush

Day 12 – Let’s get inspired – Tinting a photo

Day 11 – Color Play – color board

“Neutrals”

Day 10 – If truth be told – create for the sake of creating

“A Painted Rose” I added turquoise blue filters to this photo of a light pink rose.   I really like how heavy layers of texture make this photo looks like a painting. I used two of my own textures on this photo.  Have you tried Kim’s “Art of Texture” class?  It is so awesome and I highly recommend it!

Day 9 – For the Love of Type  "Here Kitty Kitty”

A picture of sweet little Rosie.

Day 8 – Chalk Love.  I used Kim’s Chalk Magic texture and added stamps and chalk-like smudges.

It is very cool that this was created without a blackboard or chalk – only in Photoshop!

ACE Chairs

This week’s challenge in Beyond Beyond is to edit Kim’s chair photo.

I love how these two chairs look sitting next to each other – just like old friends.

I used two layers of Kim Klassen’s ToBe texture; I like how it softens and ages the photo.
